We believe in upholding federal disability civil rights statutes, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ACA), the Olmstead decision, the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (DD Act), the Rehabilitation Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). We champion the full implementation and funding of these laws, and reject discriminatory acts and statements of about people regardless of disability.
ANCOR joins with other national advocates to protect and promote stronger enforcement of existing civil rights laws for people with disabilities, particularly:
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA);
Sections 503 (federal employment of people with disabilities), 504 (nondiscrimination in federal programs) and 508 (information accessibility) of the Rehabilitation Act;
Help America Vote Act (HAVA);
National Voter Registration Act (“motor voter”);
Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act;
ANCOR strongly supports the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) international treaty, which has been signed by the United States President, but has to date not been ratified by the Senate.
