ANCOR 40th Anniversary Club

Throughout 2010, ANCOR has been celebrating 40 years of quality community supports and services to people with disabilities. At our recent Management Practices Conference in New Orleans, we enjoyed a cake-cutting ceremony sponsored by Aflac and recognized both our National Advocacy Campaign Direct Support Professional of the Year and Legislative Advocacy award recipients.

We are planning to culminate the year’s celebration with an anniversary party in conjunction with the 2010 Governmental Activities Seminar and DSPs to DC event in Washington, DC. Held at the historic and venerable Smithsonian American Art Museum/National Portrait Gallery, we're planning an evening of good food, celebration of our field’s considerable achievements, camaraderie and fun. Plans are to recognize ANCOR's Legacy Leader inductees, and to showcase self portraits by people served that ANCOR hopes to present to the National Portrait Gallery as a permanent archive of self-expression by people with disabilities.

Invitations to the party will be made exclusively to members of ANCOR's 40th Anniversary Club. Club members will receive a 40th anniversary commemorative booklet, an attractive memento, and an invitation to the party. 

We hope you can join us and submit a self-portrait by an individual served by your organization. We unfortunately must limit portrait submissions to one per organization or affiliate. Portraits can be in any medium (paint, pencil, marker, sculpture, textiles – you name it!), and should be suitable for mounting on an easel or table top.  Detailed submission guidelines will be provided in the near future.

We also welcome contributions beyond the Anniversary Club for those who are able to offer greater support to our anniversary celebration.
