International Opportunities Q & A

Q: Our organization has existing connections to an international program. How might we partner with other ANCOR members?

A: Please contact one of the co-chairs of our International Program Committee or the CEO of ANCOR who are listed on the back of this brochure for further information. They will assist you in thinking through ways your organizations might partner with one or more of the projects already identified as target sites. If your connection is in a country other than those listed, we will invite you to participate in a Committee meeting audio conference call to discuss common interests and opportunities.

Q: My organization has used computers and other equipment that might be of value to identified non-governmental organizations (NGOs). How can we get these items to the project in need?

A: Generally, computers and other durable goods like clothing have become extremely expensive to ship. As with the Tsunami disaster, it is better to work with each NGO directly, identify specific needs and assist with cash donations to purchase these items. The U.S. dollar can be significantly stretched in most third world or developing democracies, often as much as 10 to 1. Purchasing in the partner country helps its economy and ensures your organization that donations are used to provide the material aid designated by your donors.

Q: Our organization has discussed becoming involved in international work, but our board and staff have many questions about the process, commitment and outcomes. Can we use the ANCOR network to learn more?

A: Several members of ANCOR’s International Committee have agreed to make presentations to boards of directors or agency leadership as an orientation and introduction to international efforts. Please contact one of th members listed on the back of this brochure for assistance with scheduling a presentation.

Q: Our organization is interested in supporting ANCOR’s international efforts, but we are not ready to become directly involved at this time. How can we be of assistance?

A: Each ANCOR member agency who is currently working internationally has established U.S.-based donor programs. You can request information concerning these opportunities for support through the ANCOR International Committee and then decide which project you would like to support.
