SGA Final Rule Takes Effect, Will Not Be Delayed By Bush Administration (March 2001)
ANCOR has learned that the Bush Administration has allowed the new regulations regarding the indexing of the substantial gainful activity (SGA) level to go into effect as planned on January 29, 2001. There had been concern that the regulations might fall under the regulatory delay announced in the Card January 20th Memorandum. On January 31, 2001, the Social Security Administration (SSA) issued a memorandum to its regional, field, and processing offices to ensure that all are aware that the new regulations are in effect as of January 29th. In addition to indexing SGA to the amount of $740 per month, the final regulation also increases and indexes the monthly Trial Work Period earnings and the monthly student earned income exclusion. A summary of the final rule on indexing SGA is available at SSAs web site at www.ssa.gov.
