Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act transformed the nation since its enactment 20 years ago on July 26th. This important legislation was enacted to protect people with current, past and perceived disabilities from discrimination and continues to ensure that people with disabilities can achieve equal opportunity, independence, and self sufficiency to live and work in the community. The ADA’s promise was reaffirmed with the passage of the ADA Amendments Act in 2008.
Please join ANCOR and countless other national organizations in recognizing and celebrating this important milestone. Check out the 2010 Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Anniversary Tool Kit. The Tool Kit offers informative materials designed to help you plan and publicize your ADA activities during the ADA Anniversary and throughout the year. Let your fellow ANCOR members know what you are doing to commemorate the event on the ANCOR Connected Community!
While ANCOR staff are attending ADA celebrations at the White House, The Capitol, and the Senate on July 26th, an online survey of disability leaders released July 22rd at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, hails the affects of the 20 year legislation while reporting findings that also uncover new challenges. The survey revealed less satisfaction with affects of the ADA on employment opportunities The full survey is available at http://www.declarationforindependence.org/.
