CMS Issues New Guidance on ICF/MR Evacuation Drills Under Life Safety Code

This letter requires actual vs. simulated evacuations 6 times per year in facilities where the individuals served are capable of learning to self evacuate.  If the facility has determined that it's not possible or likely that residents can be taught to evacuate independently, then the drills are for staff to be trained in their specific duties/functions during fire situations.
