House Passes Bill That Replaces 'Mental Retardation' With 'Intellectual Disability' In Federal Laws
The House of Representatives passed by unanimous consent Rosa’s Law (S. 2781), which replaces the term “mental retardation” with “intellectual disability” in areas of the federal government. The Senate approved Rosa’s Law in August. President Obama has already said he will sign legislation. The terminology would change as laws and documents come up for revision meaning the law has no expected costs.
