NEW Issue Brief: ANCOR Applauds GA Settlement Agreement

The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) entered into a comprehensive settlement with the State of Georgia regarding its mental health and developmental disabilities delivery system on October 19, 2010.  The announcement ends investigations and a series of ADA claims brought by the DOJ since 2005.  Georgia can make no more placements in state institutions for ID/DD; they must transition all folks into HCBS settings; and they must add 750 slots by 2015 and another 400 slots to prevent institutionalization.

This ANCOR Issue Brief outlines further information regarding DOJ’s future ADA/Olmstead efforts as well as highlights of the specific Georgia settlement.  It also serves to alert private home and community providers of future opportunities for expanding private provider supports and services.
