New Continuing Resolution in the Works
Top aides to President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner appear to be working to pass a three-week continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown on Friday, March 19. The CR is similar in language to the first CR, imposing additional spending cuts of $2 billion a week through April 8 for a total savings of about $6 billion. The House voted 271-158 to pass the CR. The Senate is expected to take up the measure on March 16th. The CR is expected to pass the Senate by leaders in both parties but there are many in both parties that plan to oppose it.
