Budget Compromise Still Needs to Be Reached

Congress still needs to pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) by October 1 to avoid a government shutdown. The CR passed in April expires on September 30.

The Senate voted 59-36 on Friday to table to the House Republican measure that would have provided $3.65 billion in Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster-relief funds. The Senate wants $6.9 billion provided, without offsetting cuts elsewhere in the budget.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed cloture on an amended version of the House’s CR, that will be voted on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The amended version still provides $3.6 billion in FEMA disaster-relief funds but does not have the offsets.
