Graham Cassidy Healthcare / Block Grants Bill Possibly Gaining Traction

A health care bill sponsored by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is rumored to be gaining more support in the Senate, following the defeat of high profile bills this past July. The bill would convert the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into block grants, and would impose per capita caps on the Medicaid program. It has obtained the support of Senator McCain, though it is possible he supports it because of his long-standing friendship with Senator Graham. While Democratic Senators are gearing up for another fight over health care, some members of GOP leadership such as Senator Cornyn (R-TX), the number 2 in GOP Senate Leadership, have expressed doubt that the bill would gain traction without bipartisan support. ANCOR continues to closely monitor this legislation.
