NAMD Responds to Inaugural CMS Medicaid Scorecard

The National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD) issued a statement in response to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) first-ever scorecard on Medicaid services. Noting that while the “inclusion of federal performance measures – the first of its kind – is commendable”, the organization has some concerns and suggestions.

NAMD’s concerns surrounded the “compatibility, accuracy and timeliness” of the data used, as well as conclusions “that may be drawn when making comparison across states with significantly different structures”.

NAMD recommended for CMS to use “accurate and comparable data sets” and to offer more context on “programmatic variations in Medicaid”.

ANCOR has reviewed the CMS Scorecards and was surprised to see little HCBS data coverage beyond a national chart.  In line with ANCOR’s data bill, the association will be promoting greater access and public analyses of data for HCBS and ICF-IDD services.
