New Report Released on Massachusetts Innovations in Medicaid

Suzanne Gore, director of integrated care for dual eligibles at the Center for Health Care Strategies, summarizes cutting-edge program design strategies in a new report released December 11 by the Massachusetts Medicaid Policy Institute. The report, Innovations in Medicaid: Considerations for MassHealth, also draws upon interviews with stakeholders across the nation.

Don’t be mislead by the title; the report includes information from other states and can inform readers about opportunities to explore new innovations for state Medicaid programs regarding innovations and more efficient ways to deliver care, including the following:

  • Long-term services;

  • Medicaid managed care;

  • Integrated models of care for complex populations (health homes, dual eligibles, ACOs);

  • Organizational capacity;

  • Purchasing strategies;

  • Re-engaging providers;

  • IT and health information technology; and

  • Payment strategies to leverage existing funds.
