On May 3, Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) introduced the “RAISE Family Caregivers Act” (S. 1028). The bill had been introduced and passed the Senate in the prior Congressional session, but did not pass the House. The bill has now been reintroduced, and is expected to gain significant bipartisan support. The RAISE Act would establish a national strategy to support family caregivers. ANCOR has been a strong supporter of the RAISE Act and will continue to support the newly introduced legislation. (See WICs article, “ANCOR Supports Continuing RAISE Act Efforts,” September 12, 2016.)

UPDATE: On May 11, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) committee unanimously approved the RAISE Act after a markup hearing. A link to the hearing, which includes video of the entire proceeding, is available here.
