The 2017 National Core Indicators (NCI) Staff Stability Survey is now available! 19 states participated in the survey this year. As shared by NCI: “Within the report you will find information on tenure, turnover, vacancy rates, benefits offered and wages for Direct Support Professionals [DSPs] employed by service provider agencies. […] The NCI Staff Stability report has gained strength as a go-to source of information on the experience of DSP’s in our field, and is the only data source about full employment experience of DSP’s focused exclusively on the I/DD field.”

Policy connection: Strong DSP data is essential for policy-makers to make informed decisions in the intellectual / developmental disability (I/DD) space. These decisions include Medicaid rate-setting, state Workforce Investment Boards’ involvement in the field, and finding solutions for the DSP workforce crisis. Given the limited availability of national DSP data, ANCOR encourages its members to respond to the NCI Staff Stability Survey, which is distributed every year, and advocate for additional sources of data such as Department of Labor data. Because data is so fundamentally tied to our efforts on the DSP workforce crisis, ANCOR will keep members informed of opportunities to participate in the data policy discussion.
