On August 7, 2018, U.S. Representatives Jim Langevin (D-RI) and Gregg Harper (R-MI) introduced a House resolution celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Architectural Barriers Act. As U.S. Representative Langevin shared in a statement:

The ABA was an important precursor to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and it helped pave the way towards a more inclusive and accessible America. I commend my congressional predecessors and President Lyndon B. Johnson for their foresight to enact this landmark legislation.

People with disabilities deserve to live a life free of discrimination, and while we have made significant progress in achieving this, our work remains far from finished. I will continue to identify and break down barriers so all Americans are able to fully participate in society with dignity and respect.”
