Congress Leaves for August Recess

During the month of August, members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate leave Washington, DC for their home districts. This period of time, which was originally established in 1970, is known as the August recess. During this time, members of Congress routinely schedule meetings and events to interact with constituents.
