ANCOR Continues Lead Support of Bill Designating People with Disabilities as Medically Underserved

U.S. Representatives Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) reintroduced the HEADs Up Act, which would designate people with disabilities as a medically underserved population. The designation would incentivize both research into the medical needs of people with disabilities and greater access to primary care professionals and specialists. This is important as people with disabilities do not have the same access to health care as their peers without disabilities, and many medical professionals are not experienced with supporting people with disabilities.

ANCOR is a lead supporter of the HEADS Up Act in the 116th Congress, as we were when it was originally introduced last year. Because the past (115th) Congress did not vote on it, the legislative process for this bill starts anew this year. The bill has a new lead Republican sponsor, Representative Fitzpatrick, and we thank Kristen Farry of ANCOR member Woods Services for her advocacy in seeking out this new leadership. The new bill does not have a number yet, but we will share it when it is available and keep members informed of opportunities for action.
