This week, an ANCOR priority—ending the use of electric shock devices on persons with disabilities consistent with the FDA’s ban on such devices—advanced in Congress when an amendment to end the use of skin shock therapy was approved by the Senate HELP Committee. The amendment was added to FDA legislation during the bill’s markup and was approved by a bipartisan vote of 14-8. The electric shock device ban was also included in the House’s version of the legislation, which has passed the House. The bill will next advance to the floor for a full Senate vote.
