Location: Alexandria, VA (onsite preferred); Will consider remote work for individuals willing and able to commit to the following dedicated work hours: 9:00 – 5:00 pm EST, 8:00 – 4:00 pm EST, or 7:00 – 3:00 pm EST.

What We’re Looking For 

ANCOR seeks an Accounting Manager to report to the Chief Finance Officer.  The Accounting Manager will be a key member of the Finance team, and a critical component of ANCOR’s infrastructure that supports its entire staff and operations.

We’re looking for someone who: 

  • Holds an accounting degree or 3-5 years or relevant accounting experience. 
  • Has a strong understanding of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  
  • Has a strong understanding of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Compliance rules and regulations.  
  • Has advanced QuickBooks, Excel and PowerPoint skills. 
  • Has experience with Certify or other expense software helpful. 
  • Can analyze financial records. 
  • Can transfer financial information accurately. 
  • Can effectively communicate financial information to staff and stakeholders. 
  • Can effectively with coworkers on shared projects. 
  • Pays close attention to detail. 
  • Can move between projects as needed. 
  • Is comfortable moving between several software programs to complete a project. 
  • Can rank projects by their importance. 
  • Enjoys complex problem-solving. 
  • Can identify the root cause of problematic situations. 
  • Is comfortable generating solution-oriented recommendations to the CFO. 
  • Can handle sensitive and confidential information in a trustworthy manner.

As the Accounting Manager you’ll spend your days carrying out the responsibilities below:   

  • Providing the CFO with data for financial analysis and forecasting 
  • Gathering employees’ time sheets and verifying payroll  
  • Inputting and reconciling payroll data into Paychex 
  • Reconciling and submitting 401k contributions 
  • Assuring strict organizational adherence to GAAP  
  • Assisting in maintaining and updating financial policies and procedures 
  • Assisting in performing risk assessments of financial policies, procedures, and technology 
  • Assisting with renewing and assessing current business and personnel insurance plans 
  • Performing a annual Workers’ Compensation Insurance audit 
  • Assisting with annual budget development and oversight 
  • Providing staff-requested financial reports 
  • Creating monthly cost center reports 
  • Assisting with quarterly financial reports 
  • Reconciling financial data between many software programs 
  • Supporting the annual audit process by creating reports and providing information requested 
  • Assisting with annual corporate tax returns data collection 
  • Assisting with annual and bi-annual business licenses and reports 
  • Working on other tasks as assigned

Hiring Process and Timeline: 

  • Application Period (Wednesday, January 10 – Wednesday, January 24) Upon submission of your application and before sharing your application with the hiring manager, the hiring coordinator, our Director of Education and Intersectional Collaboration, will remove all references to your name (including your email address), mailing address, educational institutions you attended, previous organizations where you worked and any other information that they believe will result in triggering an implicit-bias reaction based on your identity or affiliations. As a result, the best applications describe a candidate’s skills and their application at current and previous positions that led to successful organizational outcomes.
  • Initial Review Period (Thursday, January 25 – Monday, January 29) Thirty applications will advance to the hiring manager once the “for best consideration” application deadline has passed. Suppose there are more than 30 applications for consideration. In that case, Human Resources will narrow the initial pool on behalf of the hiring manager. Most often, this process is not needed.

Applications submitted after this date may be reviewed if a failed search has occurred with the candidates in the initial applicant pool.

  • Skills Assessment Round (Tuesday, January 30 – Friday, February 2) The hiring manager will select ten eligible applicants to advance to a skill demonstration round. The hiring coordinator will contact eligible candidates and provide them with a four-question assessment. Candidates will have at least three business days to complete the assessment exercise. At the end of the three business days, the hiring coordinator will forward all completed skills assessments to the hiring team.
  • Panel Interview Invitation (Thursday, February 8 – Friday, February 9) The hiring manager will select five applicants to advance to a panel interview. The hiring manager will contact each candidate to schedule the interview, which will occur the following week. Questions will be provided in advance to all candidates for their review. All candidates will receive the same questions.
  •  Panel Interviews Conducted (Monday, February 12 – Thursday, February 15) The panel interview will be composed of no more than five individuals, including
