Summary:

The Chief Development Officer champions friend-making for fund development for the KenCrest enterprise. This position leads the development of major gifts, individual and planned giving, cultivation and fundraising events, board relations, database & donor services, and marketing and communications.

The CDO aligns the work of marketing for agency services to the mission and to the development effort. The Officer expands and diversifies our base of support, deepens relationships with donors, drives revenue growth, inspires giving from the Board and other key volunteers/ donors, lead and motivate a dedicated team, and contribute to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture. The overarching mission of this position is to support the innovation initiatives throughout the services. The CDO drives practices that promote accountability to IRS requirements and reporting of fund development results. The CDO coaches the marketing, communications, and fund development team to meet or exceed strategic goals.

Some Essential Functions:

  • Works with the Cabinet to identify and match the development needs and opportunities
  • Plan and implement strategies to secure donors and contributions in support of the organization.
  • Staffs the Centers Board Development Committee to engage the board volunteers to bring their talents to bear on the efforts
  • Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations and laws, as well as the code of ethics for fundraising professionals.
  • Keep informed of developments in philanthropy and fund development as well as the general fields of management and the not-for-profit sector; inform the Chief Executive Officer, development committee, and board on current trends, issues, problems, and activities.
  • Provide the messages and positioning that KenCrest is open, transparent, and interesting in engaging community participation in our work
  • Convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the organization and the not-for-profit sector. Oversee agency marketing resources assuring that they are assigned for business growth priorities and in support of general communication needs
  • Oversee agency internal and external communication efforts to meet operational needs and public image of the organization including the website and social media
  • Supports the CEO to engage at the right time and the right approach in the development
  • Support the CEO in the development of new board members and the engagement of the current members
  • Work with Senior Executives on capital needs and strategies to support them
  • Develop long-term plans to boost the endowment
  • Influences internal processes and systems to support the fund development efforts
  • Critically evaluates results and uses that learning in subsequent plans
  • Establish performance measures, monitor results, and evaluate the efficacy of the fund development program
  • Assures that costs of the event are reasonable in light of the financial goals
  • Engages in supporting individuals and organizations which will aid our financial goals and our mission
  • Supervise the work of the Senior Marketing Manager

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related field required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant work experience leading a development and/or advancement department for a nonprofit, healthcare, or institution of similar complexity with multiple stakeholders.
