On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky issued a statement expanding the CDC’s recommendation for COVID-19 boosters. Previously, the CDC had stated that all adults could receive a booster shot, but had recommended booster shots only for older individuals and those at greater risk.

In response to the emergence of the Omicron variant, Director Walensky stated that the “CDC is strengthening its recommendation on booster doses for individuals who are 18 years and older. Everyone ages 18 and older should get a booster shot either when they are 6 months after their initial Pfizer or Moderna series or 2 months after their initial J&J vaccine.” For more information, see the CDC guidance on COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.
