ANCOR is reporting on a March 6 hearing by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, titled “Inclusion in Tech: How Diversity Benefits All Americans” because of the promise technology has in supporting people with disabilities in living full and independent lives.

ANCOR specifically wants to bring attention to the testimony of Jennifer Houghton, President and CEO of Disability:IN. Ms. Houghton used her time to emphasize that technology for diverse audiences must include disability in those audiences, and explained how inclusive technology offerings can drive business performance and innovation. She concluded by describing inclusion of people with disabilities as a business imperative. She also flagged a resource developed by Disability:IN and AAPD, the Disability Equality Index, which is an “annual benchmarking tool that offers businesses an opportunity to receive an objective score, on a scale of zero (0) to 100, on their disability inclusion policies and practices.”
