On Wednesday, the House passed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the compromise legislation meant to replace the long overdue reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The House approved the measure is a 415 to 6 vote, following the Senate vote two weeks ago which approved the bill 95 to 3. (See WICs article "ANCOR Applauds Senate Passage of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act", June 26, 2014.) The final language in the bill was the result of months of negotiations and compromises by leaders in both parties in both houses of Congress. The final roll call numbers show the strong level of support for the legislation.
The bill is now headed to the President's desk for signature, which is expected soon.
