Position Summary
Executive Director position for InterHab, a statewide, nonprofit organization that expands opportunities for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities through support of community-based organizations. InterHab’s modern offices are located in Topeka, the seat of Kansas state government, and within two blocks of the state capitol building and administrative offices.
Since 1969, only five people have held the organization’s top leadership position. The Board of Directors seeks an Executive Director with the vision, leadership, and public policy expertise to strengthen its network and sustain its long-standing advocacy success.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: 1) five years of management experience in a nonprofit organization related to membership association work, disability advocacy, or similar nonprofit missions; 2) bachelor’s degree in business or public management, education, political science, human services, or related field from an accredited university; 3) evidence of a stable employment history and progressive career advancement with an unblemished record; 4) evidence of skilled oral and written communication; and 5) demonstrated success in legislative advocacy that includes working directly with elected policymakers.
Preferred qualifications: 1) knowledge and experience related to public finance; 2) previous direct experience working with a nonprofit board of directors; 3) a track record of leadership in the development and implementation of a strategic plan; and 4) knowledge of the managed care industry.
The minimum salary begins at $140,000 and is negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The position includes additional benefits, including health insurance, retirement, paid time off, and executive benefits subject to negotiation.

Roles & Responsibilities
The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer subject to the supervision of the eleven-member Board of Directors and is responsible for administering all InterHab affairs. The agency serves approximately 64 members with a $1.1 million budget and four employees.
InterHab services include public policy advocacy at the grassroots, state, and federal level; professional development and training for members; networking and problem solving for professionals; and consulting in government affairs, strategic planning, and communications.
