30 U.S. House Representatives Sign onto ANCOR SOC Congressional Letter Requesting Recognition of DSP Profession

30 U.S. Representatives on both sides of the aisle signed onto an ANCOR-led Congressional letter requesting that the Department of Labor recognize Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) as their own profession. We are proud of our members’ advocacy during our October 2018 Policy Summit and Hill Day (formerly Leadership Summit) – many signatories joined the letter because they heard directly from Hill Day participants on how important this is to I/DD supports and services. Specifically, the letter asks the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), housed within DOL, to create a Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) for DSPs to allow policy-makers to develop a greater understanding of this profession. This understanding is key to discussions around rate setting, state workforce recruitment strategies, federal legislation impacting our field etc. The full letter and list of signatories is available here.
