Take Action to Strengthen the Direct Support Workforce
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month: Celebrating Life Side by Side
Share this pageSince 1987, providers, individuals, and communities have used the month of March to launch public awareness campaigns in support of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. It’s an important collaborative effort and one Foothold Technology fully supports. Last year we launched our Voices of the Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Community video series as a way to highlight the work and lives of providers, advocates, parents, and individuals in our community. This year through the month of March, we shared the final Voices in our collection as part of 2017 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. If you weren’t following our social media platforms to see the daily videos, be sure to visit this page to see the final Voices in our series.
As part of our ongoing efforts to support the I/DD provider community year round, we’ve partnered with organizations like ANCOR to offer AWARDS, our software for human service organizations, to a wider audience. We also work closely with regional associations like NYSACRA, ADDP, PAR, NYSRA, IAC, NJACP, SHA NJ, CP of NYS, and ABCD. As a vendor, we support providers seeking greater levels of inclusion and the many agencies working to address challenges that remain for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. While our role is to provide the software tools agencies need to document services and supports, our staff members believe in the concepts of People First and work diligently to support our I/DD customers in their agency missions. In fact, nothing makes us happier than when we can provide our customers with tools they need to achieve success.
Over the last year we’ve been fortunate to welcome new colleagues like I/DD pioneer Laura Nuss, along with many other talented colleagues. These individuals provide us with additional expertise to support agencies in the transition to electronic record-keeping and more integrated systems of support through the use of AWARDS. You might remember when Laura wrote a blog post acknowledging the fact that I/DD providers face many new challenges today and in the future, but it’s the I/DD providers who help society stay informed, involved, and inspired! While this year’s Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is over, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the many contributions people with developmental disabilities make to our society. We also hope you’ll join us in thanking and welcoming the newest members of our I/DD provider community to Foothold Technology who work to raise awareness and provide support to their communities all year long.
