ANCOR Joins Coalition Thank You Letter for Legislation Supporting Families with Adult Dependents During Pandemic

As part of its coalition efforts with the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), ANCOR joined a letter thanking the lead sponsor of the CASH Act of 2020, U.S. Representative Richard Neal (D-MA). The letter included provisions to make families with adult dependents with disabilities eligible for COVID-19 stimulus payments. This group was overlooked in the CARES Act of 2020, which provided a first round of stimulus checks during the pandemic and ANCOR advocated on this issue over the summer. As written in the letter:

“We are especially supportive of the CASH Act’s provision including adult dependents as eligible for recovery rebates and the provision providing the $500 retroactive payment they did not receive in the CARES Act. Despite bipartisan support1 for a provision that would have ensured parents and caregivers of adult dependents received dependent recovery rebates, this provision was once again excluded from the last COVID-19 relief bill passed and signed into law last Congress. The taxpayers included in the CASH Act are among the fifty-three million family caregivers who provide the vast majority of our nation’s long-term services and supports, permitting individuals of all ages to remain in their communities and avoid or delay more costly out-of-home placements. As the pandemic continues to run its course with no end in sight, it is absolutely critical that these families and their dependents receive direct financial support in the next COVID-19 relief bill.”
