ANCOR Sends Letters of Supports for Bills on Accessibility, Medicaid Benefits and Non-Emergency Transports

To ensure that people with disabilities can live full and independent lives in the community, ANCOR sent letters to support three bills in Congress which advance these aims. The bills are:

  • Senator Ron Wyden’s (D-OR) “Work Without Worry” bill, which he will soon introduce and which would ensure that people with disabilities who qualify to receive benefits based on their parents’ work history can continue to do so even if they earn more than currently allowed under the Social Security Income (SSI) requirements. Our letter of support contains a fuller explanation of the benefit and its importance for people with disabilities’ ability to find and maintain competitive employment.
  • U.S. Representative Dina Titus’ (D-NV) “Travel and Tourism for All” bill, which commissions a report to examine challenges people with disabilities face while traveling / engaging in tourism and offer solutions. Our letter of support contains statistics on how this is a significant issue for the disability community.
  • U.S. Representative Buddy Carter’s (R-GA) “Protecting Patients Transportation Care Act”, which would make non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) a mandatory Medicaid benefit. Our letter of support explains how NEMT is a key support for people with disabilities.

We will keep our members informed of future developments surrounding these three pieces of legislation.
