ANCOR Supports Access to Assistive Devices

On April 27, ANCOR joined dozens of other groups that are members of the Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid (ITEM) Coalition in expressing concerns about proposals that could severely limit continued access to assitive devices for people with disabilities. The letter that was sent to Members of Congress is attached below. In the letter, the Coalition outlines the essential health benefits (EHBs) established by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that require that rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices be covered by insurance plans. Recent proposals to repeal or significantly alter the ACA have included provisions that would eliminate federal EHB standards. The letter strongly urges Congress to maintain EHBs for rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices, and also to maintain protections for pre-existing conditions and community rating of insurance premiums.
