The White House issued a proclamation commemorating July 26 as the 32nd anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). “Because of the ADA, generations of people with disabilities have grown up with the assurance that they are accorded the same rights and chances as their non-disabled peers — and our communities, our economy, and our country are all stronger as a result,” the proclamation reads.

The ADA provides comprehensive civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, state and local government services, public accommodations, transportation and telecommunications.
