CMS Creates Office to Reduce Red Tape

While the article below by Politico Pulse focuses more on hospitals and clinics, ANCOR will be monitoring a new office created by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to see which opportunities and challenges it will create for Medicaid disability supports. Many disability supports comply with regulations that have not yet caught up with changes in the field that seek to better meet the needs of individuals. For example, many supports still have to report staff time in 15-minute increments, even as the field shifts away from fee-for-service models in favor of value-based models.

“The agency on Tuesday announced the creation of the Office of Burden Reduction and Health Informatics, which will focus on eliminating regulatory burdens for providers and clinicians.

CMS pitched the organizational shift as an outgrowth of the administration’s Patients over Paperwork initiative, POLITICO’s Tucker Doherty writes. The new office will prioritize decreasing the time providers spend on CMS-mandated compliance and patient health data portability, Administrator Seema Verma said, in addition to other efforts to improve beneficiaries’ health care experience.”
