CMS Pushes Deadline to Comment on Proposed Changes to Provider Taxes to Feb 1

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted Medicaid stakeholders an additional 15 days to comment on its proposed Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Regulation. The new deadline is February 1, 2020 instead of January 17, 2020. This proposed rule is important for the disability community because it seeks to tighten funding requirements for provider taxes, which would affect the overall size of the Medicaid funding pool regardless of whether specific programs are eligible for provider tax funding or not. Because Medicaid funds the majority of disability supports in the U.S., the proposed rule is raising concerns about the stability of supports overall.

ANCOR has commissioned a consultant to analyze the effect of this rule on supports for people with intellectual / developmental disabilities (I/DD) as well as assist with drafting our formal comments on the rule. We will report more on this in the near future, once that work is closer to completion.
