CMS Requests Information on Establishing National Directory of Health Care Providers

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a request for information (RFI) to collect stakeholder input on establishing a national directory of health care providers and services. CMS acknowledged the challenges of maintaining up-to-date information about providers in their communities as well as the challenges faced by providers in meeting redundant and often burdensome reporting requirements to multiple databases. The national directory would seek to consolidate current directory reporting requirements into a central database.

CMS seeks comment on whether the national directory should be expanded to additional entities. The RFI will be open for a 60-day public comment period ending December 6, 2022.
