Coming Soon to the House GOP: New Obamacare Replacement Proposal

ANCOR will be monitoring an upcoming House GOP proposal healthcare previewed in Politico Pulse because of its potential implications for people with intellectual / developmental disabilities (I/DD), as they are considered by the insurance industry to have pre-existing conditions.

Politico Pulse writes: “ Republicans are on the verge of releasing a major health care proposal of their own. But it’s not the White House-developed plan that everyone’s been waiting on for months.

Instead, Republican Study Committee will publish its own health care alternative by the end of the month, the conservative House caucus confirmed to POLITICO’s Adam Cancryn.

— The plan could offer the GOP a counter to Obamacare, the first since its repeal and replace effort imploded in 2017. Republican leaders have shied away from embracing detailed health plans since then, wary of endorsing any proposal ahead of 2020 that could cost Americans their coverage and revive the pro-Obamacare energy that helped Democrats take control of the House last cycle.

— Any GOP replacement for the ACA will face considerable skepticism from public health advocates, after the party’s previous proposals were projected to cover far fewer people than Obamacare.”
