Do Not Underestimate the Power of Data… CMS Updates How it Collects Provider Information

As ANCOR continues to work on improvements to data collection to support our policy objectives, we are following the development of changes in the T-MSIS. The Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS) is a critical data and systems component of the CMS Medicaid and CHIP Business Information Solution (MACBIS). See below for an update you should be aware of – and remember that data changes policy!

From the CMS MACBIS T-MSIS Coding Information Team:

“There are two new guidance topics to improve state reporting of Provider data in T-MSIS.

• The Provider Facility-Group-Individual (FGI) code guidance provides reporting information for states to validate FGI codes and related data elements.

• The Provider Identifiers guidance defines each type of provider identifier captured in T-MSIS and provides a high-level description of how states’ source systems can validate provider identifier values for reporting in T-MSIS.
