FDA Approves Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine

With COVID-19 vaccine doses already arriving in various states following the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) emergency use approval of Pfizer’s vaccine, now is a critical time for ANCOR members to advocate that their governors prioritize people with intellectual / developmental disabilities (I/DD) and the Direct Support Professionals who support them on the frontlines of the pandemic.

To assist our members in their advocacy and educate them on broader policy discussions surrounding the vaccines, we recommend reviewing the following resources:

  • The FDA fact sheet on the Pfizer vaccine’s emergency use approval.
  • An Axios article further elaborating on the vaccine approval and next steps. We also encourage members to read this article on the limited availability of the Pfizer vaccine.
  • ANCOR’s new analysis of state vaccine frameworks.
  • A coalition statement ANCOR joined on the need for equity for people with I/DD in COVID-19 vaccine distribution.
  • This analysis by Politico Pro Datapoint on COVID-19 vaccination trials.
  • This infographic by the National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation on “systemic racism, health care, COVID and treatment.”

It’s also not too late to join us today for a webinar ANCOR is hosting in partnership with the American Academy of Developmental Medicine & Dentistry (AADMD). Register now to join us for the webinar at 1 pm EST!
