HCBS Business Acumen Center Website Launched and Learning Collaborative Application Period Open This Week

The HCBS Business Acumen Center is a resource center for community-based organizations (CBOs) that serve individuals with disabilities. The resource center provides tools, resources and examples of promising practices that promote the sustainability of disability-focused CBOs. The HCBS Business Acumen Center is designed to help organizations expand their payer portfolio with managed care organizations (MCOs), accountable care organizations (ACOs), healthcare systems, cities, counties, private pay clients and others. Through the HCBS Business Acumen Center, CBOs can receive training, technical assistance, resources and examples of promising practices from CBOs across the country and from a learning collaborative comprised of state departments, disability-focused CBOs and MCOs currently working together to address state-specific opportunities in changing long-term services and supports delivery system.

Additionally, the HCBS Business Acumen Business Development Learning Collaborative will bring together three to five (3-5) state “teams” comprised of community-based organizations (CBO) serving persons with disabilities, state agencies and other related partner organizations to evaluate their business environment and develop strategies to strengthen and sustain community-based organizations that serve people with disabilities. Each team will work together to evaluate the environment that CBOs currently work within, conduct a strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis of their operations, analyze and utilize the combined external and internal data to develop a strategic plan that describes how each disability-focused CBO will maximize reimbursement, diversify payer sources and expand their business portfolio with the goal of sustaining the CBOs operations. The partners within the state team will work collaboratively to support CBOs to develop strategies to minimize or alleviate any obstacles to their success and support implementation of the strategic plan.
