On February 27, 2018 at 10am ET the U.S. of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will hold a hearing titled Federalism Implications of Treating States as Stakeholders. Three Republican governors will be testifying on the role of states in the federal decision-making process and how federal agencies engage with states. The speakers are Governors Richard Herbert of Utah, Susannah Martinez of New Mexico, and Leroy Otter of Idaho. Learn more about the hearing here – it is unclear if it will be broadcast, but if it is, this same link will show the video. The hearing appears to be indirectly tied to the Speaker’s Task Force on Intergovernmental Affairs, created in 2017.
While this hearing is unlikely to have IDD-specific content, ANCOR members might find it informative to peruse the governors’ testimony. Given the Administration’s interest in increasing the role of states in policy-making, as seen by the recent waivers approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), members could find it useful to hear what perspectives are influencing Congress.
