Because it is important for our members to be aware of how the political climate can affect the bandwidth of federal agencies, we are sharing an article by Politico Pulse on a Congressional oversight hearing about the tenure of Seema Verma, the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

As reported by Politico Pulse:

“The CMS chief will testify on Oct. 23 in front of House Energy and Commerce’s oversight subcommittee, amid Democrats’ complaints that Trump administration health agencies are stonewalling investigations into some of their most controversial policies.

Committee Chairman Frank Pallone earlier on Wednesday threatened Verma and HHS Secretary Alex Azar with subpoenas if they don’t comply with the committee’s document requests going back months. [ANCOR note: See here for a letter sent by committee Chairman Frank Pallone requesting documents.]

— The backdrop: Democrats have charged Verma with “sabotaging” health care. Verma’s overseen cuts to Obamacare outreach and advertising while pushing policies that could limit access to care, like Medicaid work requirements.”
