HRSA Releases Additional Provider Relief Funds

On Tuesday, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)—part of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services—announced the distribution of approximately $9 billion in Provider Relief Fund Phase 4 payments to health care providers. The payments will be made to more than 69,000 providers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and eight territories.

These Phase 4 payments are intended to offset changes in operating revenues and expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic from July 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021. HRSA is reimbursing a higher percentage of losses and expenses for smaller providers, which tend to operate with smaller financial margins and serve vulnerable populations. The average payment being announced today for small providers is $58,000; for medium providers the average payment is $289,000 and for large providers the average payment is $1.7 million.

HRSA is continuing to review the remaining Phase 4 applications and will make the remainder of Phase 4 payments in 2022.
