Inclusion International Releases New Report on Exclusion of People with I/DD from International Development and Aid

As announced by Inclusion International:

“This report, Excluded from the Excluded, uses Official Development Assistance (ODA) data to reveal the exclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in international development and aid, and makes recommendations to funders for urgent change. Through analysis of ODA data, the report finds that:

  • People with intellectual disabilities were not included in 99.98% of ODA funding from 2014-2018. For every $1,000 spent on Official Development Assistance, only 20¢ includes people with intellectual disabilities.
  • 36% of the ODA projects that included people with intellectual disabilities in 2018 violated the CRPD, contributing to segregation and other human rights violations.
  • Only 2% of aid relevant to people with intellectual disabilities and their families was delivered through organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs).

Please find the links below to the full report, and we also have produced two summary sheets (one on the exclusion data, and one CRPD-compliance in international development):

We hope these resources will be useful for readers in future funding applications to justify the need for funding their projects that focus on people with intellectual disabilities and their families.”
