Forgotten Faces:
Understanding the Fiscal and Human Impact of COVID-19 on Disability Supports
Virtual Congressional Briefing
May 14
1:00 – 2:00pm ET
The coronavirus is devastating the disability community, with deep ramifications for the well-being of individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities and survival of the system supporting them in the community that will extend beyond the outbreak, but which are little discussed. In fact, the coronavirus is destabilizing the disability supports landscape and accelerating a long-brewing staffing and funding crisis. Panelists will discuss the human toll of the virus from often overlooked perspectives, and connect those narratives to overall implications for services nationwide. The panel will consist of:
An individual from Colorado who relies on disability supports and services in the community.
A Direct Support Professional from New York who serves in the frontline against the outbreak.
A provider of supports from Iowa.
ANCOR staff, who will delve into a report prepared by Avalere on the staffing and financial impact the virus has had on disability supports, and what this means for their future.
Learn about solutions Congress can take to ensure people with disabilities are protected from COVID-19, and have a system of supports to return to after the outbreak.
