Key Changes in Medicaid Program Leadership

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) underwent staffing changes that has led to a new Acting Director for Medicaid and CHIP Services, Anne Marie Costello. The chain of events leading to this change started with CMS Administrator Seema Verma’s Chief of Staff, Brady Brookes, stepping down as the agency faces close congressional scrutiny for funding it spent on communications consultants. The opening led to the promotion of Calder Lynch, then-Director of Medicaid and CHIP Services, to fill Brady Brookes’ position. In turn, his position is now being filled on an Acting Director basis by Anne Marie Costello.

ANCOR staff have requested a meeting with Acting Director Costello to discuss key issues facing our membership during the pandemic.
