ANCOR is sharing resources on non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) because for the past year we have been tracking an expected proposal by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to make NEMT an optional, rather than mandatory, Medicaid benefit. The proposal is expected to come out this month. That would leave the decision about whether to offer NEMT to states. Transportation being a significant challenge for people with disabilities, NEMT is a critical Medicaid benefit that helps people with disabilities stay healthy by ensuring they can get to medical appointments, treatments and exams.
