Resource: Understanding Tax Extenders

We share this resource by Politico Datapoint explaining temporary tax provisions often referred to as tax extenders, because congressional funding discussions surrounding these provisions have historically had ripple effects in other policy arenas, including Medicaid. That is because Congress seeks to find ways to make these proposals budget neutral and also because tax extenders issues consume a lot of congressional bandwidth when they emerge. Additionally, legislation renewing these extenders often provides a vehicle forward for unrelated bills of interest to the disability community because they are packaged together with other popular or politically palatable measures to increase their chances of passage. We hope this resource can help inform our members’ advocacy.
