Senate Confirms Trump NLRB Pick

On August 2, the Senate narrowly approved (50-48) Marvin Kaplan to serve on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Kaplan was appointed by President Trump to serve on the board, one of two Republican nominees that once the confirmation process is completed, will change the political make-up of the board to have a Republican majority. This shift in the board’s make-up may ultimately result in the reversal of certain Obama-era decisions. Kaplan previously served as an attorney for the Department of Labor and two House of Representative committees before his most recent position as counsel for the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. Trump’s other nominee, William Emanuel, is currently an attorney in private practice who focuses on management-side labor issues. He is expected to be confirmed soon.
