Senate Passes Autism CARES Bill, Sends to President

On Thursday the Senate passed the Autism CARES Act (H.R. 1058), which renewed federal funding for autism research, including research of services and supports for people with autism, – the funding was set to expire this month. The House passed the same legislation earlier in the summer, so the bill will now go to the President for his signature. Additionally, ANCOR is pleased to report that the bill increases the representation of self-advocates on the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC). ANCOR led coalition efforts this summer requesting more self-advocates on the IACC as part of efforts to bring added attention to the needs of people with autism across the lifespan.
