Speaker Pelosi Seeks Method for Simultaneous Passage of Infrastructure Bill, Budget Resolution

With the Senate in recess, the House now faces complex next steps in passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill and budget resolution.

A group of nine House Democrats wrote Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill prior to consideration of the $3.5 trillion budget resolution. The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed the Senate earlier this week investing $1 trillion in hard infrastructure creation including broadband, bridges, and mass transit. The $3.5 trillion budget resolution text is pending draft by committee and includes investments in home and community-based services including the Better Care Better Jobs Act.

In turn, Speaker Pelosi released a letter applauding the work of the Senate and President Biden’s guidance to Build Back Better. Her letter calls on House Democrats to move forward together and highlights her request to the Rules Committee to “explore the possibility of a rule that advances both the budget resolution and the bipartisan infrastructure package.” The House returns on August 23rd.
