Thank You for Making our First Virtual GR Retreat a Success!

Traditionally held in Baltimore, MD in the cozy Hotel Monaco, this year ANCOR’s Government Relations (GR) Committee Retreat met virtually for the first time to discuss our 2021 priorities and how to bring them to life. We appreciate the time and insights of the 76 ANCOR members who joined us for two afternoons to:

  • Get the 2021 political lay of the land from ANCOR’s lobbyists, Al Guida and Sarah Corcoran of Guide Consulting, as well as guest speaker Rodney Whitlock of McDermott Strategies.
  • Hear directly from key congressional staff on efforts underway to ensure that beneficial innovations devised during the pandemic remain allowed after the pandemic, fund and strengthen HCBS supports across the board, and create a standard occupational classification (SOC) for Direct Support Professionals.
  • Learn from GR staff about the reconciliation process likely to be used for COVID-19 funding legislation, as well as grassroots best practices to leverage during this time.
  • Provide feedback and insights on ANCOR’s 2021 policy priorities and how to improve our advocacy on these issues.

We were energized by attendees’ enthusiasm and grateful for their humor and good cheer even late on a Friday afternoon – on Zoom, no less! GR staff will be finalizing documents outlining our priorities for use in advocacy and reaching out to those who volunteered as advocates in the very near future. Stay tuned, and in the meantime, thank you again for your commitment and the work you do.
